Job Description

Launch your career with impact in the dynamic world of (re)insurance. At Swiss Re, we help make the world more resilient by tackling risks that matter, from natural catastrophes to cyber threats and beyond.

Our Summer Internship program is designed to provide students with a valuable combination of on-the-job training and off-the-job learning opportunities. As an intern, you will work on meaningful projects, participate in industry-relevant training, and build connections through social and networking events. We believe a Swiss Re internship is more than a summer job, it is the first step toward a rewarding career.

About the Role:

As a Claims Intern, you will support one of our Claims teams in managing and analyzing insurance or reinsurance claims across a line of business. This role will provide you with a broad introduction to the claims function within re/insurance, giving you insight into how Swiss Re supports clients, evaluates exposures, and ensures efficient and fair claim outcomes.

This internship is designed to be flexible across business units—whether Life & Health Reinsurance or Property & Casualty Reinsurance—allowing you to contribute meaningfully to real projects while learning about different aspects of the industry.

Key Responsibilities

Project work may include:

  • Claims Support: Assist in the review, processing, and documentation of claims, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data.

  • Research & Analysis: Conduct research on claims trends, policy wordings, and regulatory frameworks; prepare summaries and reports for senior colleagues.

  • Data Management: Support claims data entry, quality control, and reporting activities to ensure robust portfolio management.

  • Project Work: Contribute to ongoing claims initiatives, including process improvements, risk assessments, and knowledge-sharing projects.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal teams (Underwriting, Actuarial, Legal, Operations) to gain a holistic view of how claims impact Swiss Re’s business.

  • Learning & Development: Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and networking opportunities.

About You:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail

  • Interest in insurance, reinsurance, and claims management

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a global team environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); data analysis skills a plus

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and eagerness to learn

The internship base salary will be $20-$30 per hour, depending on location, qualifications, projected graduation year and/or highest degree held.

Please note : Graduate and Intern positions at Swiss Re are not eligible for US work authorization sponsorship.
