Role Overview

The Data Analyst Senior regularly meets with business units to understand data needs and develops reports for current system data requests. You will work with developers to complete projects and to work on HelpDesk tickets as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience with Tableau or a similar business intelligence tool. You will also use Salesforce, SQL/PostgreSQL, Jira, and Confluence. Experience in Child Welfare is a plus.

 

This role is in the DCS office in Indianapolis. You will be in the office five days a week.


Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $70,122 annually but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

 

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are:

  • Supervises day-to-day tasks and performance for associate and/or intermediate analyst(s).
  • Manages the transfer of raw data to the appropriate location for use in data analysis projects.
  • Guides the implementation of robust and accurate data analysis for projects throughout the agency, as requested.
  • Provides advanced data analysis of agency datasets as requested; assigns general analysis projects to direct reports; ensures the alignment of analysis projects with team and agency priorities.
  • Provides technical assistance to program areas for the creation of reports and grant deliverables.
  • Lead efforts to develop effective reports and compelling data visualizations to communicate findings with target audience(s); document and share best practices for reporting with internal and external partners.
  • Presents key findings and summaries of results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Designs data quality checks to ensure the validity and cleanliness of agency datasets before their use in analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to develop novel ways of using and reporting data.
  • Assists Director with optimizing workflows and moving to self-service data from static reports.
  • Assists Director with identifying new opportunities for analytics improvement throughout the agency and mobilizing resources to implement change.
  • Adheres to HIPAA, PII, PHI, and other state statutes concerned with protecting data confidentiality and individual privacy.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours that may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.

What You'll Need for Success:

The ideal candidate in this role should minimally have either 

  • a Master’s degree with some experience or, 
  • a Bachelor’s Degree with 2+ experience, or 
  • at least 6+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role. 

 

Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in supervision, leadership and/or mentorship in a professional or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with data manipulation, including cleansing, standardizing, and transforming.
  • Specific and extensive knowledge of statistical software, open-source programming languages, and database querying.
  • General knowledge of at least two of the following is preferred: SQL, Tableau, R, Python, PowerBI and/or ArcGIS.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt and use novel tools and languages.
  • Experience in leading workshops or training sessions.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated experience with using data visualization tools to create compelling visualizations.
  • Broad knowledge of data analysis, analytics, or statistics.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multiple and fluid demands.
  • Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
  • Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
  • Ability to lead, encourage, and influence others to perform.
  • Upon entering the role, individuals must have or obtain the following requirements:
