Summary

The Day Care Director is responsible for managing the overall operation of Cocopah Day Care, the development, and delivery of programming while ensuring compliance with all Day Care regulations, grant funding, and policies and procedures. Maintains a safe environment for children and employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Day Care staff, including participation in the recruitment and hiring of staff, scheduling of all staff work hours, orientating to new staff, providing all staff with the information and resources required to do their jobs based on standard operating procedures, and policy and procedures.
  • Complete staff performance evaluations and mediate any staff problems that occur.
  • Develops and promotes a program that will encourage the overall development of the children (physical, intellectual, linguistic, emotional, social, and spiritual)
  • Perform a variety of administrative functions to manage the Day Care center.
  • Develops Departmental budget for submission to the Tribal Administration.
  • Research and write grant proposals for the Day Care to obtain grants and prepare monthly and yearly reports on the status of the program for grant funds.
  • Submits required reports to Tribal Administration, Granting Agencies, and Tribal Finance Department.
  • Providing parents with information in the classroom curriculum, program events, workshops, and training available to parents.
  • Completes purchase orders and maintains the Day Care inventory of materials, supplies, and groceries.
  • Plans weekly, menus for the children maintain attendance records, children's hours, and sign in/out sheets.
  • Schedules field trips for the children.
  • Assist with daily activities upon arrival of children as they enter the Day Care Center.
  • Attends as requested by Supervisor, planned staff/parent meetings, workshops in or out of town, and required training.
  • Others duties may be assigned.

  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills with children and adults alike.
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills in order to communicate with parents, staff, and children.
  • Must have strong leadership skills to inspire respect from young children.
  • Must be organized and have a strong business sense.
  • Knowledgeable about the latest trends and techniques in education and child-rearing, encouragement, and communication.
  • Familiarity with theories and practices of behavioral therapy, child development, and parent-child relationships.
  • Must have an appropriate code of ethics for working with young children.
  • Must be flexible and able to react appropriately to changing circumstances.
  • Must have strong crisis management abilities and be able to maintain a cool composure in times of crisis.
  • Must have strong administrative and time management skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service.
  • Must be professional and Leadership skills with employees

Qualifications

  • Valid fingerprint clearance card
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Food Safety certification
  • Must submit to a yearly physical, TB skin test.
  • Ability to obtain Health Card.
  • Valid AZ Driver’s License.
  • Testing may be required.

Education and/or Experience

  • Master’s degree in education, early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in early childhood, child development, or a closely-related field required.
  • 2-year specialized work experience, 4- years in a related field, management or director position at least 18 months of child care experience and: A.C., C.D.A., or C.C.P. credential

Work Conditions:

  • Mental demands/Physical demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Deals with constant interruptions and critical deadlines that may arise from time to time.
  • Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Job requires sitting for a long period (during planning and reporting) and standing for long periods (during observations and training), as well as stooping, squatting, and running.
  • A moderate amount of driving is required.
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions.
