We are seeking an experienced Network Security Engineer to support security governance, compliance, vulnerability management, and network security operations. This role will focus on ensuring secure network architecture, monitoring for risks, supporting IRS-related compliance activities, and preparing the agency for Safeguard Reviews.

• Perform advanced network security analysis , including risk assessments, vulnerability evaluations, and security findings remediation.

• Support compliance efforts with IRS Pub 1075 and related federal security requirements.

• Review network configurations, firewall rules, access controls, and logging to ensure compliance with required security standards.

• Assist in preparing for IRS Safeguard Reviews , ensuring all required evidence, artifacts, and documentation are complete.

• Review and validate System Security Reports (SSR), System Security Plans (SSP), and Security Self-Assessments (SSA) for network-related controls.

• Evaluate compliance with the IRS Safeguard Computer Security Evaluation Matrix (SCSEM) for network security components and provide guidance for remediation.

• Monitor network traffic, IDS/IPS data, firewalls, and VPN logs for anomalies and potential security incidents.

• Support incident response activities related to network threats, vulnerabilities, or malicious activity.

• Ensure secure configuration and hardening of network infrastructures such as routers, switches, firewalls, and cloud network components.

• Coordinate security activities using the agency's project management standards.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support secure network architecture and compliance improvements.

• Provide technical guidance on implementing network security best practices and mitigating risks.

• Strong experience performing expert-level network security analysis , vulnerability management, and incident response.

• Hands-on experience validating and documenting compliance with:

  • IRS Safeguard Reviews

  • IRS SCSEM (network-related components)

  • IRS Publication 1075

• Deep understanding of network security technologies:

  • Firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, secure routing, segmentation

  • Zero Trust principles and network access controls

  • Network logging, monitoring, and SIEM tools

• Experience reviewing technical security evidence, artifacts, and control implementations.

• Ability to prepare agencies for audits, assessments, and safeguard reviews.

• Strong communication and documentation skills.

• Experience working with federal or state agencies.

• Background supporting regulated environments involving IRS or FTI (Federal Tax Information).

• Relevant certifications such as:

  • CISSP, CISM, CEH, CCNP Security, GIAC, or similar.
