Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm
Work Location: Psychiatry REACT Clinic, Cooper Green

The Research and Evaluation of Assertive Community Treatment (REACT) Program is part of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology at UAB and was established in 2000 as the first assertive community treatment (ACT) team in Alabama. This interdisciplinary care team of a psychiatrist, social workers, nurses, counselors, and case managers provide community-based psychiatric treatment, rehabilitation, and support using the latest evidenced-based practices to support individuals with serious and persistent mental illnesses. As part of the REACT team, nurses joining this team will have the opportunity to provide intensive individualized care for patients who may have avoided or not responded to traditional outpatient care and rehabilitation services.

This member of the REACT multidisciplinary psychiatric treatment team is responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments; assessing physical health needs; making appropriate referrals to community physicians; providing management and administration of medication in conjunction with the psychiatrist; providing of a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services; and sharing shift-management responsibility with other staff.

Position Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required: Position requires a degree from an accredited RN school of nursing. One year of RN experience required. Must have a strong commitment to the right and ability of each person with a severe and persistent mental illness to live in normal community residences; work in market jobs; and have
access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports, and services. Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential. This position requires a valid driver's license and appropriate automobile insurance coverage.

Preferred: Minimum of three years' nursing experience with at least one year of experience in an inpatient or outpatient psychiatric setting. Experience in research studies desirable.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR REGISTRATION:
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required within thirty (30) days of employment.
